Nepal
The birthplace of Buddha

This land is Buddha’s birthplace – the Light of Asia. Siddharta Gautam-Buddha was born in 623 B.C. in Kapilvastu, Lumbini. Lumbini is now a sacred place of pilgrimage for Buddhists from all over the world.

Home of the highest point on Earth, Mount Everest, and the lowest valley. It is located in the Himalayas and contains eight of the ten world’s highest peaks. Rich with a beautiful landscape and fantastic trekking tracks. It is a home of many different national origins. They are the descendants of immigrants from Tibet, India, Kashmir, and central Asia. Although many religions harmoniously co-exist, Nepal has the highest proportion of Hindus globally, and the second most significant belief is Buddhism. Both share priests and temples and also worshiped Goddes Kumari.

Nepal has the only living Goddess in the world called Kumari. Kumari is a chosen young girl and means virgin. She is the link between the worshipers and Gods until she gets her period.

The locals are friendly and willing to help. Nepal is also a culturally rich county with dozens of Natural and Cultural World Heritage Sites. The capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu, is known as the living cultural museum of the world.

Apart from urban cities, the village people are still hard workers. It is also a place for backpackers if you are looking for company.

Nepal has its unique Bikram Sambhat or Vikram Samvat calendar that is not following the world’s official Georgian calendar. Imagine there are 56 years, eight months, and 17 days ahead. The true story of the beginning of the calendar is a mystery. It is also a solar calendar based on ancient Hindu traditions. Its name and starting date should come from legendary king Vikramaditya of India’s Ujjain kingdom. The year begins on the first day of the month, which usually falls on April 13th or 14th in the western calendar. The Bikram Sambat calendar is primarily used in Nepal and India, but other countries also use it.

It is an opportunity to be in another time dimension for a while and acknowledges that all calendars were “only” humankind’s decisions and ideas on how to count the time.
The best and most comfortable time to visit Nepal is between October-December and March-April. Still, there are opportunities throughout the year for different reasons to visit the country. As you see, there are many reasons to travel to Nepal.
