Shamanic trance dance is a contemporary dance ritual with ancient roots—the way to knock on the door of our soul.
Our ancestors in ancient times lived an animistic life, later known as shamanism. Viewed and understood that nature, objects, places, creatures, humans, handworks, and even words possess a distinct spiritual essence that there are alive.
The origin of the dance was copying nature through movement and sounds. It was the first and highest way to connect with the spirit. Shamanic trance dance is a doorway to the soul. They understood natural cycles deeply and believed that the spirit within nature is the life-givers, spiritual allies, and teachers. Through this process, our ancestors honored Mother Earth, Father Sky, and the four sky directions of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. Shamanic trance dance invites the spirit to give vision and healing or bring spiritual wholeness. Some cultures today continue to be animistic and use these shamanic practices.
Trance dance is a multilayered ceremony to move beyond the limitations of the daily body-mind state to a much deeper inner place.
By the shamanistic spirit allies’ protection, we are guided by the rhythm of the drum music to start moving and dancing to overcome our trained daily mind activities and reach into the trance state that extends beyond the physical senses and mind functions. We become much more connected to our essence. In this way, an internal, deep journey can begin to overcome the limitations of time and space. A beneficial, powerful tool is what we wear throughout the dance, a blindfold that helps to shut down the primary source of distraction to the mind’s brain, the outer world. We cross into a space beyond what we call the spirit world, heaven, another world, the universe, and the Source.
Shamanic Trance Dance brings profound change, deep insight, self-realization, and healing.
Shamanic trance dance is the shamanism for our time that supports our earth walk, enabling us to see who we are, where we are going, and who we are becoming.
